Holiday Dishes with the worst sugar content

High Sugar Holiday Food

Many of us know that consuming too much sugar can lead to cavities. During the holidays in Suffolk County,  we are all tempted to consume all of those delicious treats that surround us. Although these treats can be quite delicious they might not be the best for the health of your teeth or your health at all.

There are many holiday dishes that should be avoided for the benefit of both your teeth and your waistline;

  • Flavored popcorn is one of them. It’s one of the cheapest, and yummiest things to give out at your holiday party. The problem is what these little bites can do to your health, belly, and teeth. They are corn syrup solids, made with sugar, artificial flavor, cheese, buttermilk, msg, and corn oil.
  • Another famous treat are Christmas cookies. They are super cute, but not your healthiest option.
  • Egg nog is another popular holiday treat with lots of sugar. This famous drink is made with whipping cream, sugar, eggs, and bourbon.
  • Pecan pie is another. It is full of pecans, corn syrup, butter, surrounded by a crispy, crumbly crust of flour and butter.

These are all dishes that you might want to avoid during the holidays. Not only are they high in calories, but they are also high in sugar and will begin to damage your teeth. If you do want to indulge, make sure to brush as soon as possible. Foods like these with high sugar content can cause potential problems quickly.

Cavities happen when the harmful bacteria in your mouth feed on the sugars that you eat and create an acid that begins to destroy your tooth enamel. The enamel is a shiny, protective layer that protects your tooth. Cavities are created by acids that will cause your teeth to experience a hole in them. Without any treatment, a cavity can lead to the deeper layers of your tooth, causing a lot of pain and possibly loss of tooth. Therefore, careful with what you choose to eat during the holidays.
